FOUNDATIONAL On Camera Audition Technique, 4 Week Class:
Text, Character, & You
Dates: TBA
TIME: TBA
LOCATION: TBA
Tuition: $350
*Max 12 Participants
These four weeks are designed to provide participants with a foundation to confidently enter any audition setting. The first class we spend a great deal of time working with the text and clearing away habits. The following class we introduce the idea of physical story telling - how can well create a world on camera that is physically alive? We delve into the physical world of the scene as well as behavior that tells the story on the page. The remaining classes we integrate the concepts from the first two classes, as we continue to explore under 5's, co-star material, and longer scenes.
The course covers a lot of material and is designed as a comprehensive four weeks that provides a complete skillset for working on camera. Material and course structure is designed for the participants involved. Class is small to ensure plenty of on-on-one attention. The goal is for every participant to leave class with a personalized and effective process for auditioning, as well as confidence in front of a camera.
ADVANCED On Camera Audition Technique, 6 Week Class:
Trap Material, Underdeveloped Text, & Genres
Dates: TBA
Time: TBA
Location: TBA
Tuition: $425
*Max 12 Participants
This six week course is designed to give participants experience with many different kinds of texts and the tools to work with 'trap scenes' and various genres. We begin class with a very well written scene, which is assigned before class and is used as material for a 'mock audition' our first day. We then transition into scenes that require speed/ attention to rhythm. Further into class, we explore procedurals, soap opera material, underdeveloped scenes, complex physical challenges, scenes with extensive exposition, feature film and indie film material, 'trap' under 5s, and the ways to navigate the particular challenges of different kinds of scenes.
The course covers a lot of material and is designed as a laboratory for actors who are interested in deepening their skillsets and who are curious about mastering the art of auditioning for camera. I choose the material and design the course structure for the participants involved. Class is small to ensure plenty of on-on-one attention. In this advanced class, we explore how to make strong choices that enable flexibility in a casting room. The goal is for every participant to leave class with a deeper understanding of how to identify what is on the page, and how to bring that puzzle to life in front of camera in an effective and memorable way.
MASTER CLASS, 4 Week Class:
A Self Directed Forum for On Camera Audition Practice
Co-Taught with James Rees
TBA
This four week course is designed specifically for former students who are interested in meeting weekly to practice audition technique and to work out the kinks in their on camera audition skillsets. Class will be structured in the style of a mock audition.
Participants will be responsible for bringing their own material to class, based on their specific interests. Feedback will consist of both 'casting' notes and also notes from a director's perspective. Both instructors will help to guide students towards their limitations and self imposed boundaries. Class will focus on solidifying the skillset each student has in place, and also on identifying and strengthening weaknesses. This is an advanced class. If you are interested in enrolling in the Master Class, and believe you qualify for enrollment, please get in touch!
